Fujicon Left Foot Accelerator
A left foot accelerator is a mechanical or electronic device that enables car acceleration control via the left foot. Astec uses a number of different systems to achieve this function.
When the left accelerator is in use, the right side pedal is either removed, covered up or switched off to stop accidental operation. The car can still be driven by the right accelerator if required, usually by removal of the device (easily achieved by the driver or passenger) or in the case of an electronic system, simply switching it over.
The type of left accelerator system used will depend on the vehicle make, model and year and the drivers requirements. For this reason each vehicle needs to be assessed for suitability. Fitting is carried out at our workshops and generally takes one to two working days to complete.
Note: left accelerator adaptations are suitable for auto transmission vehicles only.
Specifications
- Fujicon Left Accelerator - This Japanese product features a simple click to fit / remove system that makes changing from left to right foot operation very simple. Pedal angle can be set at the time of installation to suit the customer's preferences and the articulated pedal plate is very comfortable to use.
- Electronic crossover box. - Most modern cars are operated by drive by wire acceleration systems. This means that when the driver depresses the accelerator an electronic signal is sent to the vehicles computer requesting that more fuel is delivered to the engine. Astec can fit a second pedal box (purchased from the cars manufacturer) in the area on the left side of the brake pedal.
By interconnecting the two pedal boxes (left and right) and providing an electronic changeover box, left or right operation can be selected by a switch mounted to the dash. The pedal not in use is disabled so that accidentally pressing it will not accelerate the vehicle. The advantage of this system is that no bending is required to change from left to right operation, and the appearance is neat and tidy.
